Why this one matters
Nichols Ride – Los Angeles The Nichols Ride is the crown jewel of all Velo Club La Grange group rides and one of the most iconic cycling traditions in Los Angeles. Taking place every Sunday morning, this legendary group ride has been part of the LA cycling scene for decades. A typical turnout ranges from 40 to over 100 riders, creating a dynamic and energetic peloton. The ride begins in Westwood before heading north and turning onto Little Santa Monica Boulevard, rolling east through Century City. From there, the group flows into Beverly Hills and West Hollywood along the iconic Sunset Boulevard. The early pace is smooth and conversational, giving riders time to settle in before the intensity builds toward the climbs ahead. As the ride approaches Nichols Canyon, the atmosphere shifts. Conversations fade, the pace sharpens, and the group begins to stretch under the pressure of the climb—marking the true start of one of Los Angeles’ most respected and challenging group rides.
